After a 5 week hiatus from skiing due to a rotator cuff strain, I was itching to get back on the mountain. When my PT gave me clearance to ski, I was all over it. In fact, if I had the time, I would have shot straight from his office to the mountain in my super high speed Subaru. Unfortunately, I had to wait until Saturday to get my mountain fix.
Look what I found on Saturday:
SUN SUN SUN! Yes, people, that is the round, bright thing that comes out every now and then in Oregon between October and June. It was the most amazing day. The temps easily topped 56 degrees and there was not a breath of wind.
I skied a lot. I did not save anyone because there wasn't anyone to save. The mountain was fairly empty all day, leaving me to completely obliterate my thighs on sun-baked mashed potatoes.
While I skied with the plethora of patrollers dispatched that day and soaked up the sun, I tried to give some encouragement to these erstwhile apprentices. No one forgets their apprentice year (as hard as you might try) and these guys and gal need the encouragement.
