Out the back door

Sometimes I get lazy and instead of riding a few miles to world-class sinlgetrack, I think, "I just want some singletrack out my back door."

On those days, I open the back door (literally), point my bike uphill about a quarter mile and end up here:

It's not world-class and it doesn't have the technical difficulty of Hartman Rocks or the awe-inspiring views of Crested Butte but you know what it does have? SUPER EASY ACCESS.

On this day in June, I wisely waited until 1pm (that is the problem with singletrack out the back door- "oh, I can just go whenever") when the bugs and the heat were out, making my climb quite buggy and sweaty. I was rewarded on Signal Mesa with 360 degrees of views and random spots of wildflowers.

Every now and then, it's perfectly ok to skip the technical ride or the mind-blowing ride and just explore your backyard.

That night, Brian came home from work, Hazel and Tygh came home from school, and we went shooting. The drive to the shooting range took 5 minutes. Maybe.

A few years ago, my father-in-law gifted Hazel with a pink Red Ryder bb gun (I know, she is totally going to shoot her eye out) and the time had come to use it.

Tygh is slightly too young to shoot so he just hung out. Maybe next year, Mr. T.

Who can deny that a man shooting a pink Red Ryder bb gun is SO HOT?
