City Mouse, Country Mouse

It's been kind of busy around here, getting ready for our move and all.

Oh, I didn't tell you? Hm. I thought Facebook and the Twitterverse would have spread the news far and wide by now.

We're moving to Gunnison, Colorado in T minus 20 days.

In 20 days, 9 years of living in Portland comes to an end so that we can pursue our dream of living in the mountains.

We are excited and nervous and thrilled and scared and clueless and joyous. That about sums it up.

We are elated to be moving close to a world-class ski area and mountain biking trails and various mountain adventures. We are undoubtedly sad to leave the life we have created in Portland behind. Goodbye bike racing scene (one of the best, if not THE best, in the country). Goodbye ski patrol. Goodbye crazy good jobs. Goodbye amazing friends.

But also? GOODBYE RAIN. SAYONARA SOGGINESS. ADIOS DRIZZLE.

And? Hello Adventure!

No, really. HELLO ADVENTURE!

It's been a really long time since I have been able to say that and it feels refreshing to know that we are doing something just a little off kilter, something that others tell us is crazy.

Here is what I am looking forward to (in no particular order):

-mountain biking from my front door
-learning how to skate ski
-riding the free bus to ski at Crested Butte
-enrolling my 4-yr-old in 12(!) weeks of lessons at Crested Butte (side note: I don't have to teach my kid to ski anymore! Hoo-freaking-RAY!)
-learning how to ice skate
-riding my bike and walking almost everywhere in town
-rock climbing after work (Whoa! Can you IMAGINE?)
-lining up for some mountain bike races (*GULP*)
-taking weekend trips all over the Rocky Mountains with my rad family

And this, really:

-raising two kids to think the mountain life is the Normal Life.

Let me repeat that: Raising two kids to think the mountain life is the Normal Life.

It can't get much more awesome than that.

Here's to adventure and here's to risk. Here's to crazy ideas and here's to living your dream.

But most of all, here's to family.
